Presence and contact lists
Users could subscribe to another account’s presence, organize contacts into groups and choose between compact or avatar-led contact-list styles.
Direct and group conversations
Coccinella provided one-to-one chat and XMPP Multi-User Chat. Historic captions also describe invitations from a chat dialog into a room or whiteboard session.
File transfer and message history
The old feature list included file transfer, while screenshot captions described a short recent-chat history shown when conversations resumed.
A synchronized whiteboard
The defining feature was a built-in canvas synchronized between participants. The former gallery stated that a whiteboard session could include more than two people by inviting a Multi-User Chat room.
Open-network features
The client connected to Jabber/XMPP servers, used service discovery, and could interact with transports that linked other messaging systems. The historic site listed secured connections through TLS and SASL.
Desktop experience
Archived galleries document Windows, Mac OS X and Linux interfaces. The project also advertised avatars, emoticons, plugins and internationalization. Packaging records identify Tcl/Tk dependencies that helped support its cross-platform desktop approach.
